Adult Education for Empowerment:
Building Skills, Confidence, and Sustainable Livelihoods
At The Duala Foundation, we believe that education has no expiry date. Learning at any stage of life has the power to unlock confidence, create opportunities, and transform entire communities. Our Adult Education Programme, delivered in partnership with Engage Now Africa and supported by our sponsors, is designed to do exactly that: equip adults with practical skills they can use immediately to improve their lives and livelihoods.
Why Adult Education Matters
Across many communities, adults, especially women, have had limited access to formal education. This gap affects not only literacy but also income generation, financial decision-making, and long-term economic stability. Our programme responds directly to these needs by combining literacy, financial skills, and hands-on vocational training.
What We Offer
Adult Literacy
We provide a supportive learning environment where adults can:
Learn to read
Learn to write
Improve their general knowledge and confidence
These foundational skills empower participants to communicate better, support their children’s education, and engage more confidently in everyday activities.
Business & Financial Literacy
Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to money. Our business and financial literacy sessions help participants to:
Prepare simple business accounts
Understand profit and loss
Avoid losses and grow their small businesses
This practical approach ensures learners can immediately apply what they learn to their trading and entrepreneurial activities.
Vocational & Skills Training
Beyond the classroom, we focus on skills that translate directly into income. Our vocational training includes:
Soap making
Disinfectant making
Antiseptic making
Hair pomade making
Leather works
These skills open doors to self-employment, encourage innovation, and promote financial independence.
Community Impact
The Adult Education Programme is already making a visible impact. Participants are gaining confidence, managing their finances better, and starting or improving small businesses. More importantly, they are becoming role models showing that learning is possible at any age and that economic empowerment begins with knowledge.
Partnerships & Support
This initiative is made possible through collaboration and generosity. We are grateful to our sponsors, including Helping Africa Foundation and Nyansa Village Enterprise, whose support enables us to reach more learners and deepen our impact.
